English My Way Terms of Use

Please read these terms of use ("the terms") carefully before using the English My Way website. You should access and use the website and content only if you agree to these terms.

By using this site, you are agreeing to these terms.

If you don't accept these terms

If you do not accept these terms fully, you do not have permission to access the content of the website and you should stop using the website immediately.

Ownership

This website is supplied by Good Things Foundation.

'English My Way' and 'we' refer to:

Good Things Foundation, 1st Floor, 1 East Parade, Sheffield, S1 2ET

References to 'you' mean anyone using the website.

The audio and video assets on the website are supplied by the BBC.

The learning syllabus and resources are provided by the British Council.

Changes to the website

We can alter, suspend or stop any service on the website, or its content, without telling you.

We can change these terms at any time. You can find the date we last changed the terms at the end of this page. We recommend that you visit this page from time to time to make sure that you know about any changes we have made. By continuing to use the website after any changes to the terms, you are agreeing to the changes.

You accept that you have no legal claim if we change the website or these terms.

Using the website

You agree to use the website only for lawful purposes, and in a way which does not infringe the rights of anyone else or affect anyone else's use of the website.

You agree not to act in an unlawful manner or in a way which may harass or distress anyone else.

Using accounts

The website offers you the chance to create your own English My Way account, which allows you to use the materials provided on the website. Any English My Way account we set up for you is governed by these terms.

When you register for our service, you agree to:

  • Give information that is accurate, up to date and complete and keep your information accurate and up to date.

To update your personal details on the website:

  • log in
  • click on 'Edit your account' in the top right-hand corner

The website is free (though you will need to pay any service or phone charges for accessing the internet). Because the website is free, we do not guarantee:

  • it will be available
  • it will be working properly or
  • we will continue to provide the website

We can:

  • close down or change the website at any time.

We will tell you if we are going to introduce or change these rules.

We can end your English My Way account and delete all information stored on it if you do not access your English My Way account for 90 days or longer.

We can suspend or end your right to use the English My Way service immediately if in our sole opinion you are not meeting these terms, or if a regulatory authority asks us to. If we end your right to access the English My Way service, we may immediately close down your account and delete all information associated with it.

Disclaimer and limiting liability

We provide the content of this website for general background information only. You should consult a qualified adviser for advice on any specific question or problem.

You should not rely on the accuracy of any part of the content. We will not be liable for any damage, loss, costs or expenses which arise directly or indirectly from you using this website.

Downtime

Computer and telecommunications systems may contain faults, including viruses, and may from time to time need downtime ( a time when the website is not available) for repair, maintenance and upgrading.

So, we do not guarantee that the website will always be available, but we will make reasonable efforts to reduce the time when it is not available. You cannot claim we have broken these terms because of downtime.

The website provides links to the websites of third parties. We do not recommend the content, products, advertising or other materials available from these third-party websites and you should use them at your own risk. We are not responsible for any damages, loss, cost or expense arising from your use of these third-party websites.

Password

If you want to get your own English My Way account, you will need to register with us. We will ask you for your first name, your email address or mobile phone number and a password and a username will be generated for you. As you will be responsible for all activities that occur under your username and password, you should keep them confidential. You must tell us immediately if anyone else is using your username or password without your permission, or if you believe that your username or password are no longer confidential.

We can ask you to alter your username and password if we believe that they are no longer secure.

General

You should not rely on any statement we or any of our representatives have made about using this website (other than those set out in these terms).

If we cancel any of these terms, or we cannot enforce them, those terms that are not affected will still apply.

Your rights and our rights under these terms can be waived only in writing. If you or we do not exercise a right, we are not waiving that right.

Governing law

These terms will be governed by the laws of England and Wales.

You can use the website without providing any personal data. However, you will have to provide personal data if you:

If you want to register and use English My Way's full suite of features, you will need to give:

  • your first name and either your email address or mobile phone number
  • a password and
  • your postcode.

Optional Information

In addition to the information you are required to give during registration, you will be asked some questions which you do not have to answer. We will ask you for:

  • consent to use your details for marketing purposes
  • your age group and
  • your gender
  • how you heard about English My Way.

We may transfer your information to countries or jurisdictions which do not provide the same level of data protection as the UK, if necessary for the above purposes. If we do make such a transfer, we will if appropriate, put a contract in place to ensure that your information is protected.

Occasionally we may promote the English My Way website with partners through joint publicity campaigns. If you have come to this website through one of those partners' own websites, the registration process may ask for additional information. If any additional information is asked for then the registration page will clearly describe how this data will be used and will provide a link to the Terms of use on the partner website.

If there is a competition offered through a partner website then please note that a link to the Terms of the competition will be available on the registration page and the competition entry and awards process will be the responsibility of the partner.

If you change your mind about being contacted then you can change the setting on these screens.

Please note: we may record calls to the helpdesk for quality and training purposes only. We will store calls for about three months and keep them confidential.

How do we use your personal data?

We have a security policy which includes a number of sophisticated security measures to protect against personal data under our control being lost, misused or altered.
